Are we dependent on electric-written by Pastor Terry
Have you ever noticed that our world thrives on power? When the power goes out in our house it is fun for a bit but when the moments drag on for hours, we get nervous about how much food we might lose or, if the weather is cold, how low the temperature will get inside. Electricity and our ability to plug into it has become something our country relies heavily on.The year was 1890 and President Harrison was in the White House. Up until this time in history candles and lanterns were the primary means to light the home of our president. President Harrison was not happy about the installation of electricity as it was an unfamiliar power with unknown consequences. Rumor has it that he would not even touch a light switch! One of the things that I don’t like about summer is how disconnected many are. There is nothing wrong with travel, vacations, camping and visits to family, however, those trips frequently pull us away from our community of faith. The end result is that we feel a bit less connected to our community of faith and maybe even God. The danger is that we might even wind up feeling a bit like President Harrison, so familiar with no power that we become uneasy about connecting to The Power Source.
